How to create a delivery note in four steps

Your logo and business information fill in automatically, so the delivery note travelling with your goods looks professional and clearly comes from you.

  2. 2

    Reference the customer order

Download the PDF and send it with the shipment as a delivery note or packing slip. Keep a copy so you have a record of exactly what left your hands and when.

What a delivery note is for

A delivery note, sometimes called a packing slip, travels with a shipment and lists what is inside. Its job is simple but important: it lets the person receiving the goods confirm that what arrived matches what was ordered, item by item, before anyone worries about payment.

Because it separates the physical delivery from the financial side, a delivery note is often signed on receipt. That signature becomes proof that the goods were handed over and accepted, which protects you if a customer later claims something was missing or never arrived.

Delivery note, packing slip or invoice

A delivery note and a packing slip are effectively the same document, with the term varying by region and industry. Neither is an invoice. The invoice asks for money and usually follows separately, once the delivery is confirmed. Keeping them apart is deliberate: the warehouse or the person receiving goods should be able to check a delivery without seeing pricing, and your accounts can bill on their own schedule.

Remit lets you produce a clean delivery note with or without prices, referenced to the customer order, so the goods and the paperwork always agree.

Questions, answered

Do delivery notes show prices?+

You can include prices or leave them out. A delivery note is mainly about what was delivered, not payment.

Is it free?+

Yes, unlimited and free.

Should a delivery note include prices?+

That is your call. Many businesses leave prices off so the person receiving focuses on quantities and items. Remit lets you include or hide them.

Is a delivery note the same as a packing slip?+

Yes, they are the same thing. The name changes by region and industry, but both list what is in a shipment so it can be checked on arrival.

Do I still send an invoice as well?+

Usually yes. The delivery note confirms what arrived, and the invoice asks for payment. You can raise the invoice in Remit separately.
